Its been a great Easter weekend, the best I've had in the past 3 years, as each of the previous 3 have been tarnished with various events that were not so pretty.
This weekend, though, was spent in the beautiful city of Vienna. Jenny, Sebi, Jana and I drove the total 1432km to spend the weekend with Jenny's family and enjoy the city. It was great spending time with Jenny's parents, getting to know the city where Jenny grew up and also spending time together as friends. I was struck by the resemblance to Paris, the buildings that were built in similar eras and had similar architectural design.
This weekend, though, was spent in the beautiful city of Vienna. Jenny, Sebi, Jana and I drove the total 1432km to spend the weekend with Jenny's family and enjoy the city. It was great spending time with Jenny's parents, getting to know the city where Jenny grew up and also spending time together as friends. I was struck by the resemblance to Paris, the buildings that were built in similar eras and had similar architectural design.
We managed to tour the inner city on Friday, sampled some typical Austrian desserts ( not excluding the world famous Sacher Torte, or Apple Strudel- see pic above) complete with a service in one of the old churches in the city. I was in awe as the choir sung accapella the story of Jesus betrayal and death. The sound of the voices reverberating around the chapel was amazing.
Saturday was highlighted by a tour of the Schloss Schönnbrunn grounds (above), home to Sissi and Joseph Franz (?). Unfortunately spring hadn't quite made it yet to Vienna and so the flowers were not yet out. The sun was shining and the air very clear to give us a great view of the whole of Vienna from the Glorium on the top of the hill. 
We continued around the city for the afternoon complete with Döner for Linner (lunch/dinner!) and then we sat in line for a couple of hours to…. The BALLET!! It was unbelievable to have the opportunity to go to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ballet at the Opera house in Vienna--- going to the BALLET IN VIENNA!!! Seriously, it blew my mind to be able to do that. We had really great…"seats". Ha, at the opera house, there are the balcony booths, the floor seats, but then also standing room area. Those that pay for actual seats can pay up to 100 Euro for their place. We, on the other hand, were able to get tickets for much much less than that, and stand at the back with a brilliant view. It was unbelievable. We all enjoyed it immensely.
